Menopause is one of the levels that would be experienced by every woman. Most women will experience physical and emotional changes at this level.
Hormon replacement therapy (HRT) is an effective treatment for reducing menopausal hot flashes. Many women do hormon replacement therapy to improve the quality of life such as trying to get pregnant or reduce the effects of menopause. Type of hormone therapy can be either estrogen alone or combination therapy of estrogen and progestin. But beware, a study says hormone therapy increases the risk of cancer. Women's individual characteristics, risk factors, and severity of menopause symptoms,should be considered when weighing the risks and benefits of HRT.
Dr Lina Morch Steinrud from Rigshospitalet Copenhagen, Denmark, in his research found that hormon replacement therapy consisting of estrogen, progesterone or hormone replacement therapy used to relieve symptoms of menopause was strongly associated with breast cancer.
The decision to use hormone therapy after menopause should be made by a woman and her health care provider after weighing all the risks, such as heart disease, breast cancer, stroke and blood clots, and the benefits to relieve symptoms of menopause and prevent osteoporosis.
For the record, the link between hormon replacement therapy and breast cancer was dependent on the type of hormones used or how long the women were using hormone therapy.
